The Royal High School Preservation Trust has been awarded £3 million from the City of Edinburgh Council’s Visitor Levy, bringing the project ever closer to its fundraising target to transform the former Royal High School into the National Centre for Music.
The former Royal High School building on Calton Hill, which is owned by the City of Edinburgh Council, is one of the city’s most historically significant buildings. This contribution of public funding shows a powerful endorsement for the planned National Centre for Music.
Kate Smith, Chief Executive of the Royal High School Preservation Trust, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to receive this support from the Visitor Levy. This significant award brings us closer to realising our vision for the National Centre for Music, and creating a significant new cultural destination and community resource in Edinburgh. We are grateful to the Council and the Visitor Levy Advisory Forum for this public investment which will create lasting cultural, economic and social benefit for the city.”
