Fair Work Policy

Fair Work First is the Scottish Government's flagship policy for driving high quality and fair work, and workforce diversity across the labour market in Scotland by applying fair work criteria to grants, other funding and public contracts being awarded by and across the public sector, where it is relevant to do so.

Through this approach the Scottish Government is supporting employers who adopt fair working practices, specifically:

  • Payment of at least the real Living Wage.
  • Provide appropriate channels for effective workers' voice, such as trade union recognition.
  • Investment in workforce development.
  • No inappropriate use of zero hours contracts.
  • Action to tackle the gender pay gap and create a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Offer flexible and family friendly working practices for all workers from day one of employment.
  • Oppose the use of fire and rehire practice.

The Royal High School Preservation Trust (RHSPT) values the principles of the ‘Fair Work First Policy.’ Therefore, we are committed to ensuring the application of fair working practices that support the ‘Fair Work First’ policy within our organisation. Our support of the Fair Work First Policy is demonstrated within our organisation by the following:

  • Royal High School Preservation Trust pays all its employees above the real Minimum wage.
  • RHSPT will avoid the use of zero-hour contacts in inappropriate contexts.
  • RHSPT will continue to tackle the gender pay gap and to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • We offer a flexible work schedule for all of our staff.
  • RHSPT does not engage in ‘fire and rehire’ practices.
  • All UK-based staff aged 16 and over, including apprentices, who are directly employed by RHSPY are paid at least the real Living Wage
